Abstract
For the production of cellulosic single cell protein from agricultural wastes by Cellulomonas flavigena KIST 321, batch cultivation in 101 jar fermentor were carried out to establish the optimal culture conditions based on the previous report.
The results obtained were summarized as follows.
1. A considerable ammount of organic acids were produced in the culture broth during the batch cultivation wit rice straw as substrate. The yield of biomass and digestibility of the substrate remarkable decreased at lower than pH 6.0 of the culture medium.
2. The cell mass productivity could be determined indirectly by alkali consumption during the batch cultivation by means of a good perallelity between alkali consumption and cell mass production.
3. The optimum pH and temperature of the cultivation was observed at 7.4 and 34¡É.
4. The optimal aeration was between 0.4,¡4. 6 vvm on the agitation of 200 rpm.
